Zane Maloney has secured the British F4 Rookie Cup with 6 races to go.
The 14 year old driver joined the British F4 grid with a couple of years karting experience. He started the year taking 2 out of 3 wins during the first round at Brands Hatch. The other winner was Carlin team mate, Joe Turney.
Along with taking an early lead in the Rookie Cup, he took two podiums for the main British F4 class with it. Finishing third in the first race and second in the final race of the weekend. Eye’s were already peeled to see the young rookies progression.
It was Thruxton, just the third round of the season where Zane took three Rookie Cup wins and with it, his first main class F4 victory. From Thruxton up until he won the title in race 2 of Knockhill, Maloney won 15 out of the 17 races. Showing impressive form in his first season, Zane wrapped up the championship early.
Posting on his facebook page, Zane Maloney Racing, he said:
“Amazing to have secured the Rookie Cup Title! Huge thank you to the team, my sponsors and supporters”.
The rookie is also leading the main British F4 drivers championship, with double the amount of wins that any other driver has got. Going into the knockhill round, Zane had a 37 point advantage over rival Sebastian Alvarez. Due to contact and mechanical issues over the Knockhill weekend, that gap is now down to 15 points.
The final 6 races will decide who will lift the title. We’re looking forward to watching it!
