Zane Maloney Wins British F4 At Thriller Finale

Zane Maloney has won the British F4 title in a thrilling debut season.

We got a statement from Zane ahead of the final round of the season to see how he was feeling, he said:

“This year has been amazing. I’ve learnt so much as a rookie and to top it off we won the rookie championship and are leading the overall. It’s been very tough. A lot of amazing competition and great battles on track.”

“I think there’s so much competition and everyone is learning a lot. But hopefully I’m able to do my best and come out on top which would be amazing to bring back home to Barbados. And especially to win it in front of many home supporters coming to brands, a track that I love and i’m really quick at. I’m really looking forward to the last round.”

The final weekend started perfectly for Zane, finishing the first race on top and pulling a 10 point advantage over title rival Sebastian Alvarez. Race two wasn’t as ideal, Alvarez taking the win while Maloney was down in fifth. This meant than coming into the final race, Zane was five points behind.

Zane took the early advantage, taking the lead from Louis Foster. Alvarez made a mistake coming out of Sterling, running onto the grass and then losing two places the next lap.

Sebastian Alvarez then suffered what appeared to be an engine failure, bringing out the safety car. With that, it ended his race and other than Maloney having an issue, the championship as well.

Maloney took an impressive victory, taking his win total to 10 for the season. Louis Foster was the next closest with 6 wins this season.

Clearly extatic, the 14 year old celebrated with his team after the race, holding the flag of Barbados above his head. Speaking after the race, Zane said:

“What an amazing race, what amazing support.”

“(I) didn’t want to settle for second, I wanted to push [for the win]. I wanted to take the win because it then didn’t matter where he [Sebastian Alvarez] finished.”

“10 wins, that’s an unbelievable season.”

“Everyone did an amazing job, the team did an even better job.”

“I’m going to move up next year, we’re going to see what we’re going to do, I don’t know yet. Contracts need to be signed”

We would like to congratulate Zane and the Carlin team on an impressive season! We’re looking forward to seeing what he achieves in 2020.
